Plantar Fasciitis

Heel spurs or plantar fasciitis affect both men and women equally. Plantar Fasciitis is a condition in which the bottom of your foot's heel becomes extremely painful. A heel spur is a bony overgrowth on the bottom of your heel bone. Heel spurs usually result from the inflamed ligament (plantar fascia) on the bottom of the foot that attaches to your heel bone. This abnormal pulling on the ligament irritates the heel bone and your body responds by laying down a bone spur as a protective mechanism. You often feel pain with the first morning steps the most with some relief following activity. Extended durations of standing or walking can cause increased irritation.

Plantar Fasciitis can result from many things including; being overweight, wearing ill-fitting shoes, bio-mechanical problems (mal-alignment of the heel), gout, and pronation (a complex outward motion or rotation of the heel and inward rotation of the ankle). Heel pain can be relieved somewhat by wearing proper fitting Shoes like Dawgs.

Extreme cases of Plantar Fasciitis

If your efforts to relieve this foot pain fail, surgery is often the next step. New minimal incision surgeries such as the Endoscopic plantar fasciotomy surgery has proven beneficial for this condition.
